Emer Dickinson - Graduate Environmental Health Officer, Food Safety Team
"Not only have they helped with my career, but I feel so welcome. They are a fair employer offering benefits such as a good pension, mental health support and many other perks.”
I moved here from Liverpool where I graduated, to start my career at the council in September 2021.
I hit the ground running inspecting low risk food premises and assisting colleagues with high risk inspections. I also deal with hygiene complaints, foreign body complaints or advice visits, and investigate infectious disease cases.
It can be quite daunting coming straight from university, but my team have been so welcoming. Hull City Council have paid to put me through my registration process, which allows me to become a fully authorised Environmental Health Officer, which other employers require you to pay for yourself.
My team is constantly supporting me daily and are always offering me opportunities to learn more.
They are a fair employer and the benefits are pretty good too - a good pension, mileage, mental health support, discounted theatre tickets and many other perks.
I would definitely recommend working here. Not only have they helped with my career development, but they have made me feel so welcome.
