Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapists (OT’s) work with a range of individuals around mental health, physical health, and cognitive impairment.
Working with younger people transitioning into adulthood, older people struggling with their day-to-day tasks, disabled adults who want to maximise their life with chronic and long-term conditions. As well as the homeless, and people in prison.
They support and arrange adaptations for people. Ranging from giving people a simple grab rail at the front door, to a stair lift or to major house extensions and kitchen redesigns for wheelchair accessibility.
Typically, Occupational Therapists -
- helping people to adjust to their disability
- provide specialist equipment to support people to live their daily lives and maximise independence
- advise housing departments on minor and major adaptations to people’s home to make them more accessible
- advise housing departments on people’s individual needs for adaptations and equipment when they are moving to a new property
- support with Blue badge assessments
- provide specialist advice and support around how to manage physical, mental and cognitive barriers to living life
