I’ve always had a desire to work with people, growing up I saw first-hand with a disabled family member how getting the right support can make a real difference.
I have always had the desire to work in a role which makes a real difference to people’s lives.
My first role after university was in occupational therapy, which then led to working with older people for short time before working for the Church of England with homeless women and children.
My next role was with Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, as a support worker within the supported housing team. One of my most challenging and rewarding roles, and I eventually went on to manage the supported housing service and developed a floating support service and a project for young people with early onset psychosis.
Whilst I was working with Mind I trained as a counsellor and undertook the first of my management qualifications.
Since I started working with Hull City Council from 2003 I have had a variety of roles, managing the Welfare Support Service, managing teams in the Housing service and working with local people on improvements schemes and regeneration in the area teams.
My current role enables me to work closely with candidates undertaking the induction process and qualifications, embedding good practice and consistent working practices.
My satisfaction in this role comes from seeing the difference we can make to the confidence and skills candidates develop through our programmes, and in turn the difference they make to young people’s lives.
I love the training aspect of my role and I have been able to undertake further qualifications in assessing and teaching.
I currently deliver within my role -
- level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare
- level 3 Diploma for Foster Care
- level 4 Award in Work with Parents (Intense Support for Families with Multiple and Complex Needs)
- level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare
Outside of work I enjoy socialising with family and friends. I also have a passion for baking and I love my garden; I have a small vegetable patch and an overflowing greenhouse.
